The Mighty Hits The West Coast
2018 Rolex Motorsports Reunion August 23 - 26
Last August saw the annual running of the Rolex Reunion featuring over 500 historic and period-correct race cars from nearly every era competing around the famous Laguna Seca road course. The Mighty and crew were in awe of being able to run on such an iconic track and at such an important race meeting. Competing in the 1963 - 1966 GT Over 2500cc class meant the Mighty was a little out gunned with big block Corvettes, a plethora of GT350R Shelby's, Cobra's, including a Daytona Coupe, E-Type Jaguars plus a nice mix of other marques.
Getting lots of attention from spectators in the pits to the officials in tech, the Mighty never fails to impress. Although not so much on track this time. Not firing on all cylinders (figuratively and literally speaking) we were a little off the pace. But fun was still had by all.
Bring on the next event.
2017 SVRA Gold Medallion Award
The MFR Team travelled to the Circuit of the Americans in early November to race at SVRA’s US Vintage National Championship and present The Mighty for inspection for Gold Medallion classification. Tony Penn and Chip Hane were the MFR team. The setup included stock rockers, 7x15 wheels, un-grooved rotors, passenger seat, and over-ride bars.
We paddocked with the CVAR boys in the well-appointed Formula One garage
SVRA’s chief of eligibility Rick Parent inspected The Mighty for qualification of Gold Medallion status. We received the thumbs up and short list of items to change including removal of plug wire boot protectors, installing a rubber fuel tank vent hose (!), and changing to vintage fuel pumps. We received a Gold Medallion award package and log book in the mail in early January, another fine distinction for the MFR Team.
The next event for the Mighty is the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at the famous WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway in California. This classic event is running the weekend of August 23 - 26 2018. Come and say hi to the Mighty and the team.
